HULU SELANGOR, April 18 (Bernama) — Parti Keadilan Rakyat candidate (PKR) for the Hulu Selangor by-election Datuk Zaid Ibrahim said his alcohol-guzzling days were over.
“It’s past. It is an old story. If they want make an issue out of it, let it be. I had sought Allah’s forgiveness. I ask Selangor for forgiveness, the ball is on Umno’s feet.
“Whatever my shortcomings, my weaknesses, I am human but I am capable of becoming an elected representative.
“I am not a hypocrite, whatever mistake I did, it was an erroneous past. I do not hide them, I am not like them,” he told reporters when met during a house to house campaign in Kerling here Sunday.
Zaid said what distinguished him from other leaders was that he was not a hypocrite.
“I believe that the people can evaluate Zaid Ibrahim whether he is fit to become an elected representative. If the people feel I am suitable, then I will win, otherwise I will lose,” he added.
Zaid, who is a former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, is pitted against BN’s P.Kamalanathan, who is MIC information chief, and independents V.S. Chandran, who is a former Hulu Selangor MIC vice-chairman, and Johan Mohd Diah, a businessman.
